Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist – Palatine, IL

Attending Worship Services at CCUU

Come as You Are

Please feel free to come as you are most comfortable. Some people come each week dressed up while others are quite casual. This “come as you are” atmosphere extends beyond mere clothing and other adornments – we welcome all seekers.

Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist Entrance

Prior to the Service

People usually arrive about 15 minutes before the service. Enter through the south entrance, where you’ll find the narthex just inside. Before worship, people gather there to greet one another and socialize. You’ll also find a greeter and a visitor center on the church office window ledge with name tags and visitor forms if you would like to join our mailing list.

To the left of the entrance, a hallway leads north to the classrooms. Bulletin boards with announcements, information, and literature line the right side of the hall. Farther down on the left are the restrooms and nursery. Beyond the double doors are additional classrooms.

Worship begins at 10:00 am. Some people arrive early for the Open Forum Discussion, held from 9:00–9:50 am, which focuses on current events. To attend the Forum, head to Classroom 5 at the north end of the building.

Worship Service

Sunday Worship Service at CCUU

Our announcements begin five minutes before the start of the worship service. Listening aid units are available from the ushers. Large print orders of worship are also available. Please sit wherever you feel most comfortable.

The service begins with a Call to Worship and by the lighting of our chalice, the primary symbol of Unitarian Universalism, and the recitation of our Covenant. The service is usually led by our minister, the Rev. Pam Rumancik. When she is not in the pulpit, the service may be led by a lay member of the congregation or a guest (please see the Worship Schedule for who will lead the service).

Our liturgy includes hymn singing, choir music, readings, an offering, a sermon, a message for all ages, and often a meditation. Some services also include member affirmations, new member joining ceremonies, or dedication ceremonies for babies and young children.

After the Service

Fellowship, with coffee and tea service, follows the service. We encourage visitors to meet the morning’s greeters at the Kinship Ministry table just inside Atherton Hall (our fellowship hall, straight across the Narthex as you leave the Sanctuary) for coffee, tea, and conversation after the service. Congregation members happily meet and talk with visitors, share impressions and experiences, and welcome people to a church that encourages each person’s unique spiritual journey.
