In times like these, it’s easy to freak out, numb out, check out, burn out. But as Bayo Akomolefe says, “The times are urgent; let us slow down.” Let us take care of ourselves and each other, let us gain perspective, let us ground ourselves in deeper places and ask deeper questions. And then as Clarissa Pinkola Estes suggests, let us show the lantern of fully lit soul in these shadowy times, in ways that can make a difference. Rev. Scott Aaseng will preach this Sunday.

Rev. Scott Aaseng (he/him) is in his 12th and final year leading the Unitarian Universalist Advocacy Network of Illinois. Originally from Minnesota, Scott worked with the former Southwest Youth Collaborative and American Friends Service Committee, and has served congregations in Illinois, central Washington and northwest Indiana in various capacities over the last 35 years. He enjoys studying community organizing and continues to learn new things about it all the time. He also enjoys playing, singing and listening to music, and is looking forward to walking El Camino de Santiago with friends next spring.
