UU History 101: Tuesdays, 7–8 p.m. on Zoom; Aug. 25–Sept. 29
Learn about UU history and ideas from the starting point of compelling stories and personalities. Each session will focus on two or three people in our history who shaped Unitarian and Universalist values and beliefs. Short videos tell the stories, and discussion and journaling will help us make connections to our own lives as we explore questions about conscience, love, experience, courage, identity, and calling. Coming of Age for Adults: Tuesdays, 7:00–8:30 p.m. in person; Oct. 6–Nov. 3
When we hear “coming of age,” we typically think of young people. And yet, we “come of age” again and again at various points in our adult lives as we go through changes in our lives and relationships. COA for Adults is a five-session series designed for adults of all ages to explore their spiritual journey and religious identity. Participants reflect on how they got to now, engage with texts and videos as they relate to their spiritual lives, and craft a statement of faith about who they are as a person of faith. Transgender Inclusion in Congregations: Dates and times TBD, but tentatively starting in late October or early November
This 6-session course is geared toward people from generally LGTBQIA+ welcoming congregations who want to deepen their understanding of gender and transgender identities with the goal of expanding and embracing radical welcoming of everyone. Alex Kapitan (one of the instructors of this course) says: “At its very core, the Welcoming Congregation Program asks congregations to challenge their own sense of where the boundaries of belonging are—to draw the circle wider.” Each session includes an online lecture by instructors from Transforming Hearts, followed by discussion. At the end of this course, we will have a number of practices and tools to help create a more welcoming space for trans, non-binary, lesbian, gay, bi, and queer people, aimed at making this community into a sacred space where everyone feels welcome.
