Summer Days

Summer Days

Remember those essays we had to write when we got back to school after summer break? Usually unimaginatively titled “what I did on my summer vacation,” they were a way to reflect on our time and gain perspective.

We still need that as grown-ups of whatever age. Time to step out of routines and habits that suck our attention into everyday details, never allowing moments of long-term evaluation and clarity. We need mountain top moments, staring out to sea moments, moments to pause and listen to the hum of pollinators and sleepy birdcalls. Time to remember we exist within divine breath, universal flow, the ever-present current moment.

Karen and I have had a slow-moving summer. Working on house projects, tending the garden, walking the dogs and visiting with friends. There’s not been a lot to write home about – and I’m really grateful.

The surrounding world is chaotic enough this summer. Friends and family and watching the clouds roll by is just my speed. I hope you have found what you need this summer. Its’ rapidly dwindling days will soon be giving way to more moderate temperatures. In no time, we’ll be gathering with our collected waters, greeting friends after time apart, and beginning the busier fall schedules.

Our water communion offering will definitely be from the hose this year – and that’s just the way I like it.
Stay cool! See you soon~
