Chalice House: Immigration News

  • Our current residents from Ukraine are here on humanitarian parole, which is valid for two years; they arrived in July. If the new administration refuses to renew the Uniting for Ukraine Program, they may have to return to Ukraine at that time, but that is 18 months out.
  • Our former families are legally seeking asylum and have legal representation to get them through the legal process.
  • ICDI and POC are both actively educating our folks (and many others) so that they know their rights. Additionally,  Illinois has some local policies in place that limit what local law enforcement can do, for now.

Please continue to support our partners or other organizations who serve many immigrants, both documented and undocumented. Those who are undocumented are living in fear and will be staying in the shadows more than ever. You can stay abreast of the situation by subscribing to newsletters published by ICDINational Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), and CLINIC

    • Most of the threats being voiced by the incoming Administration are targeting undocumented immigrants. Our former and current residents are all in the country legally and have the proper documents to prove it.

We have received questions regarding the Trump administration’s immigration tactics and their impact on Chalice House. Fortunately, our partner Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants (ICDI) has their finger on the pulse of this evolving situation and is working hard to keep program participants and supporters informed. At their December meeting, ICDI featured an information session on potential actions that the new administration may take regarding immigration. The situation is of course very fluid, but ICDI is prepared to help us protect our former and current residents.

At this point, here are a few key points that are important for you to know as you listen to news reports:
